  • Guzman Energy to Power Jicarilla Apache Nation in Northern New Mexico

    (Coral Gables, FL; November 21, 2016) – Guzman Energy has signed a long-term Power Purchase Agreement with the Jicarilla Apache Nation. The agreement represents the continued growth of Guzman Energy in the region and adds to its already significant operations across Northern New Mexico. Under the terms of the contract, Guzman Energy will provide power to the Nation, which consists of approximately 3,500 members, for the next seven years. “We are pleased to work with the Jicarilla Apache Nation to ensure their access to a safe, reliable, and cost effective electricity supply,” said Jeffrey Heit, managing director, Guzman Energy. “Working together with the Nation, Guzman Energy will not only be able to reduce the cost of power on the reservation, but also help members meet their long-term energy goals, which include greater access to renewable energy.”
    Located in North Central New Mexico, the Jicarilla Apache Nation encompasses 377,000 acres of land in the San Juan Basin. Members of the Nation manage 2,000 oil and gas producing wells.   • Kit Carson Signs Long-term Power Purchase Agreement with Guzman Renewable Partners

    (Coral Gables, Florida and Taos, New Mexico, June 27, 2016)– The Kit Carson Electric Cooperative (Kit Carson) in Northern New Mexico and Guzman Energy Group in Florida announced today that Guzman Energy Group’s affiliate, Guzman Renewable Energy Partners (GREP), have entered into a long-term power purchase agreement. Guzman Energy Group, a specialty energy company that finances, trades and operates energy assets across North America, was selected by Kit Carson following an extensive and competitive request for proposals (RFP) process initiated last summer. GREP will provide wholesale electric supply to Kit Carson members for up to a ten-year period, which will begin on July 1, 2016.
    Working together under the power purchase agreement, Kit Carson and GREP will be able to consider and access renewable energy as well as improve Kit Carson’s strategic position for energy supply. This transaction is expected to result in estimated cumulative savings in excess of $50 million over the term of the agreement for the territory’s nearly 30,000 members.

    Kit Carson’s chief executive officer, Luis Reyes said, “We are excited to announce this partnership which will directly benefit the residents and businesses of the Kit Carson territory as the cooperative takes a significant step in giving members greater flexibility at a lower cost.” Reyes also said, “As a member-owned cooperative, it is imperative that we give our members not only the ability to choose their source of power, but also the length in contract terms under which we buy that power.”

  • Arrival of Solar Array Brightens Northern New Mexico

    Guzman Energy breaks ground at Aztec Solar Facility

    (Coral Gables, FL.; May 19, 2016) – Guzman Energy, a specialty energy company based in Florida, hosted a groundbreaking ceremony Thursday morning for the new Aztec Solar Facility, a 1MW solar photovoltaic farm located in Aztec, New Mexico. Aztec Mayor Sally Burbridge and her fellow City Commissioners, as well as San Juan County officials, were on hand to celebrate the area’s first solar array. The project is part of a long-term power purchase agreement between Guzman Energy and the City of Aztec. Guzman Energy will serve as the city’s primary power source – as well as own and operate the solar energy facility.

    “I am delighted to be here today as Guzman Energy and the City of Aztec embark on a partnership to bring renewable energy to this community,” said Guzman Energy CEO Leo Guzman in his remarks to gathered officials. “Our firm is fueled by a desire to provide communities with greater access to cleaner and more affordable energy sources, and this project is a wonderful example of that effort becoming a reality.”

    The Aztec Solar Facility is located on an eight-acre site within the city of Aztec. Construction began in May and will be completed by July. The new installation will be operated by Guzman Energy, and turned over to the city at the end of the contract period.

    Lance Titus speaks At Bloomberg New Energy Finance’s “The Future of Energy Summit 2016”

    (Coral Gables, FL; April 8, 2016) Guzman Energy’s Managing Director and Head of Trading, Lance Titus, was among a group of energy executives invited to speak at The Future of Energy Summit 2016, hosted by Bloomberg New Energy Finance. As various regions across the country undergo fundamental shifts in the way they acquire energy, Titus shared his thoughts on future changes and opportunities in the industry.

    “Low gas prices and the increasing popularity of renewable energy sources are affecting markets across North America in different ways and to different degrees,” said Titus, who has more than two decades of commodity trading experience. “Analyzing these changes and adjusting the ways we view and model energy are critical.”

    Colleen Regan, Senior Analyst of North American Power and Environmental Markets at Bloomberg New Energy Finance, moderated the distinguished panel of energy analysts and executives.
