Leo grew up in a small town in Cuba before arriving to the U.S. alone at age 15 following the Cuban revolution. He has a BS in Operations Research from the School of Engineering and Applied Science of Columbia University and an MBA from the Graduate School of Business of Stanford University.
Leo founded Guzman Energy in 2013 and currently serves as chairman. He founded Guzman Energy to address a need he saw in smaller communities. “The juxtaposition of some of the poorest communities in the country paying some of the highest electricity rates was an obvious problem that begged to be addressed,” he says.
He was appointed to the Advisory Committee of the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation by President George W. Bush in 2005, has served on the Board of Visitors at Columbia Engineering and as a member of the Stanford Graduate School of Business Advisory Council, in addition to various securities industry advisory boards.
Leo was for many years a member of the Institute for Quantitative Finance (the “Q Group”) and a director for several of those years.
Leo has been married for 50 years to his wife, Susan, and they share five children and seven grandchildren.
