Mike’s career has been a blend of the finance, energy and sustainability worlds. He was drawn from Wall Street to Guzman Energy because of the company’s well-known dedication to building a groundbreaking power model that simultaneously offers clean, affordable and reliable electricity to U.S. communities.
Prior to serving as CFO at Guzman Energy, Mike was a senior member of BlackRock’s Climate Infrastructure Group, which managed over $11 billion of client commitments across six funds. During his tenure, Mike was responsible for originating and structuring new opportunities and overseeing portfolio management of existing investments in the Americas region. He was also tasked with leading due diligence efforts and serving on the board of numerous portfolio companies.
Prior to joining BlackRock, Mike worked on both the M&A and project financing teams at EDFR, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Electricite de France S.A. based in San Diego. Mike was responsible for managing M&A and joint venture structuring for utility scale wind and solar power assets.
When he’s not at work, Mike and his family love hiking, skiing, golf, swimming and exploring new mountain towns.
A NCAA division 1 swimmer, Mike earned a bachelor’s degree from Princeton University, a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from University of Michigan’s Ross School of Business and a Master of Science (MS) in Sustainable Energy Systems from University of Michigan’s School for Environment and Sustainability. In connection with his MS, Mike’s postgraduate work focused on renewable energy development in the U.S. and asset-backed security applications in the distributed solar space.
Mike lives in Denver with his wife, three children and dog, Max.
